Have you ever asked yourself how you could support people in developing 21st century competences like tolerance of ambiguity, problem solving or learning from failure?
Would you like create learning experiences that meet every participant where they are at, but struggle with making learning truly personalized?
Over the last 4 years, NOW has developed a methodology to accompany participants in their individual learning journeys.
From January 20th to February 17th 2020, we offered the 2nd edition of the Learning Facilitation online course, combining an introduction to the methodology with best practices from our programs.
ABOUT THE ONLINE COURSE
What is learning facilitation?
Learning Facilitation draws on contemporary theories of learning, which stress both the need for personalization and the need for community in learning.
On the basis of a framework of competences, participants chose and pursue their own learning goals with the support of a Learning Facilitator and their peers.
The methodology combines self-driven learning with strong personal connections and community hosting to enable deep, individual and yet shared learning experiences for every participant.
Who should take this course?
This course is for educators, trainers, facilitators, youth workers, teachers and anyone whose work is related to learning.
Learning Facilitation is especially suited for those working with participants over a longer period of time (i.e. more than just one workshop at a time) and who have some freedom in designing their learning settings.
In general, the NOW methodology is very flexible and we will reflect together on how to adapt Learning Facilitation to your own context.
What and how will I learn in this course?
By the end of the course, you will:
- have a clear understanding of what Learning Facilitation is and what theories and concepts it is based on
- know your own strengths and priorities as a Learning Facilitator
- have grown in at least two areas of development that you chose yourself with the support of the course host
- have experienced Learning Facilitation first hand both as a participant and as a Learning Facilitator
- have concrete ideas on how to implement Learning Facilitation in your own context
How did learning happened in this course?
Getting ready for your own learning journey
In the preparation phase (mid January) the program will focus on:
- A reflection on your previous experience, strengths and areas for development related to Learning Facilitation
- An individual conversation with the course host to set learning goals for the course
Testimonials from participants
The NOW Online Learning Facilitation Program was the perfect complement to the in person experience I had in person at the Facilithon. The course offered a nice balance between theory and practice, and allowed me to deepen my relationship with other facilitators invested in supporting people on their learning journey. As has been the case in all of my experiences with NOW, I was impressed by the diversity of perspectives brought by the participants, and even more so with the thoughtful design and co-facilitation which, despite my own skepticism around virtual platforms, really allowed me to feel part of a learning community.
