What is a study session?

A study session is a youth seminar developed by the Youth Department of the Council of Europe in order to bring together members of youth organizations, networks and experts to exchange and build new knowledge on a specific field. Study sessions take place at a European Youth Centre in Budapest, Hungary or in Strassburg, France.

About this study session: 

With this study session, NOW along with our ten partners from eight European countries, hopes to develop a toolkit of interdisciplinary practices for inclusion of young migrants and refugees in Europe.

This study session will offer a safe space to exchange knowledge and experience, build connections across disciplines and countries and develop a new toolkit that helps individuals and organizations all around Europe working with young migrants and refugees to build more inclusive day-to-day practices.

When does the study session take place?

The study session takes place from Monday, 7th to Saturday, 12th of October 2019 in the European Youth Centre in Budapest, Hungary. The arrival date is Sunday, the 6th of October in the evening, the departure date is Sunday, the 13th of October.

Take part in creating a toolkit that helps organizations working with young refugees to deepen their understanding and implementation of inclusive practices.


Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of one of the Council of Europe member states 

  • Aged 18 – 30 years old

  • Experience (work or volunteer) in working with young refugees and/or migrants

  • Or being a young migrant or refugee themselves

  • Committed to participate in the whole study session

  • Able to travel to Budapest (if necessary, we provide documents such an invitation letter for visa etc.)

People with disabilities*, members of the LGBTQI+ community, youth with migrant background and youth not attending university education are especially encouraged to apply.

*if needed, we can offer special support during the program


According to rules of the Council of Europe the participation in the Study Session costs 50 EUR. All your travel and insurance costs will be reimbursed during the Study Session, if you bring your tickets and receipts with you. Lodging and meals during the duration of the Study Session are provided by the European Youth Centre free of charge. The participation fee will be deduced from your travel reimbursement.

NOW is committed to offering learning opportunities to all young people, who normally would not have access to similar learning opportunities. Therefore, we are able to offer up to 5 scholarships for young people experiencing financial hardship to cover the 50 EUR participation fee.
